Cost of vaccine hesitancy is mounting
A year after COVID-19 vaccines became freely available, 25% of American adults remain unvaccinated. Vaccine hesitancy is quite the financial risk for individuals, companies, and social programs. Some public health experts say that hesitancy has already contributed to tens of billions of dollars in preventable hospitalization costs. For individuals, they are risking loss of employment or cuts to their salaries as well as higher insurance premiums. For employers, it is causing massive staffing issues and for society it is causing a financial drain on social programs like Medicare.
