Amy Kitchen becomes a battlefield for workers, union, and leaders
Tensions are high at San Francisco food company Amy's Kitchen as workers, company leadership, and unions vie for control of the company. Several Amy’s kitchen employees have accused the company of violating health and safety regulations including giving limited bathroom breaks and a lack of water on the work floor. The company’s CEO denies the claims and says that they have brought in 3rd party auditors, reviewed their internal practices and spoken with employees in small groups to learn about their experiences. Teamsters Local 665 have stepped in to represent employees on strike whereas the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation has stepped in to represent workers who they feel have not been able to fairly voice their vote against a union.
