Understaffed and underpaid, childcare workers in Australia go on strike seeking pay raises
In Australia, the childcare industry was effectively shut down for a day as thousands of childcare workers went on strike. There is both a shortage of workers in early education and an exodus of people leaving the profession which have left existing childcare workers overworked and understaffed. Childcare workers are now calling for better pay in order to attract and retain more people to work in early education. They are also calling for the government to demonstrate respect for early educators and help improve conditions. This strike is one of many organized labor actions seen recently in Australia as workers across industries demand better pay and conditions.
