Legislation proposed to strengthen federal employees' job security
The US House of Representatives is expected to vote on legislation today that would reset categories of employment for federal workers to enhance employment protections. During the Trump administration, a new category of career federal employees called "Schedule F" was created to make it easier to take disciplinary actions against poor performing workers. However, this executive order was rescinded when Biden took office before any workers were formally reclassified. Opinions on the new legislation are drawn along party lines, with most Democrats in favor of the proposal to protect hard-to-fire workers and most Republicans in opposition.
