Workers reject establishment of the first Home Depot union
In Philadelphia, workers at a Home Depot store voted overwhelmingly to reject unionization this weekend. Pro-union workers at the store were motivated to organize in order to improve wages, work conditions, and training. Following the union rejection, they have filed unfair labor practice complaints with the NLRB alleging that their employer engaged in inappropriate surveillance and interrogation techniques which interfered with the election. There are some fears that this union defeat could potentially act as a deterrent for future union organizing attempts at other large companies in conjuncture with recent union losses at a Trader Joes location and an Amazon warehouse facility.
