Public sector workers in the UK more acutely affected by cost of living emergency as pay growth lags behind that of the private sector
In the UK, pay growth in the public sector has fallen significantly behind that of the private sector, which has prompted a surge in strike activity in the past few months. The rate of these pay disparities is worse than during the height of the pandemic, in part due to the persistent inflation affecting Europe caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. As such, there have been rising tensions between the government and public sector unions. Public sector workers, like teachers and nurses, have been demanding pay increases to help keep pace with the cost of living emergency in the UK.
