Female hospitality workers experienced sexual harassment in the workplace by employers and patrons during World Cup
Throughout the process of building the World Cup stadium in Qatar and the event itself, there have been concerns raised about exploitative work conditions for migrant workers. However, recently, women working in the hotels that housed these workers and World Cup attendees have spoken up about the harassment they experienced. The emphasis on building the stadium overshadowed the dangers these women were facing, and they have chosen to speak out now to call on hotels to take urgent action against such unsafe workplace environments. These reports reflect a larger issue in the global hospitality industry, as women experience more workplace harassment and gender-based violence working in hotels compared to other industries.
