In Italy, thousands of oil refinery workers protested this Friday over the potential closure of their plant. Due to recent political tensions with Russia, Europe will be imposing a full embargo on Russian oil next month which is expected to cause this Russian-owned refinery to be shut down entirely. Workers are worried that closing this plant will have detrimental effects on the larger petrochemical business in the region. As a result, they are calling on the government to address this by either privatizing the refinery or securing other sources of oil.
