White House economists suggest improvements to childcare and eldercare benefits as a means to encourage post-pandemic workforce participation
Since the pandemic, there has been a labor shortage in America as many people have not returned to work. In an effort to combat this and encourage workforce participation, the Biden administration's economists are looking to push childcare and eldercare benefits. One of the main reasons many women left the workforce during the pandemic was to assume childcare responsibilities at home, so making childcare more affordable would help working class families. Another factor that has contributed to the decrease in the labor force has been the scarcity of growth opportunities, which has caused many workers to leave their jobs in search of new ones.
