AFL-CIO argues for greater worker protections to be considered in US digital trade deals
On Tuesday, the AFL-CIO released a proposal outlining principles it deems necessary to protect workers and public privacy throughout digital trade agreements. Digital trade has recently been at the center of US trade negotiations, and the AFL-CIO wants labor to have a larger presence in negotiating the goals of the US Trade Representative's office. The labor group argues that often times big tech companies have a greater influence on such policies than the interests of labor. As such, the AFL-CIO wants to ensure that digital trade agreements will have strong and enforceable labor standards associated with them.
