Railroad workers at CSX company to receive paid sick leave benefits in recent deal addressing quality-of-life concerns
On Tuesday, the railroad company CSX announced that it has made a deal with two of its twelve unions that will include the benefit of paid sick leave. The issue of paid sick time drove railroad unions in the US to nearly strike last year, and it also circulated concerns about quality of life for rail workers. The labor contract that was imposed on rail workers by the Biden administration did not address or resolve these quality of life concerns. However, under this new agreement, covered workers at CSX will now be granted a few paid sick days as well as the option to convert some of their personal days to sick-leave days. As a result of this deal, unions are hopeful that negotiations will continue with other railroad companies and garner similar results.
