Lawmakers in California propose raising minimum wage for health workers to address workforce shortages in the industry
In California, lawmakers are currently trying to approve a bill proposal that would raise the minimum wage for health workers and support staffers to $25. Supporters of the proposal claim that health workers in the state are underpaid and struggling with inflation in addition to being overworked. There is a labor shortage in the health industry due to these factors, which has caused the California government to consider ways to attract and retain workers such as this new minimum wage proposal. However, there is strong opposition against the proposal from the health industry as hospitals argue that raising wags will raise their costs and exacerbated need for additional state budget funds.
