National paid family and medical leave, as well as childcare programs, set forth on the upcoming US fiscal budget to drive workforce productivity
President Biden recently announced his plan to include a national paid family and medical leave program in the 2024 fiscal budget as well as invest into childcare programs. These programs would grant up to twelve weeks of time off for workers to care for children or family members, provide bereavement leave, and make childcare more affordable. In addition to these efforts, Biden is also encouraging Congress to mandate employers to offer workers seven sick days annually as sick leave has been a prominent issue at the forefront of many union demands. Proponents of these policies suggest that it will help improve worker productivity and increase the number of workforce participants.
