Home building and buying remains costly as tight immigration policies cause labor shortages in the construction industry
According to data from the US Census Bureau, foreign-born workers make up thirty percent of all construction workers. However, the number of foreign workers working in construction has fallen significantly since immigration policies were tightened during the Trump administration. As a result, even though supply chain stoppages from the pandemic have now been resolved, construction and home prices remain high due to labor shortages. Experts say that this immigrant labor is not easily substituted in the US economy because even if US-born workers fill these construction jobs there is often high turnover.
