Food delivery platforms oppose New York City’s new minimum wage law for delivery workers
New York City’s new law that sets a minimum wage for food delivery workers is facing opposition from food delivery platforms. The law would set the minimum wage for delivery drivers at $17.96/hour, with the minimum wage to increase each year to match inflation. New York City Mayor Eric Adams states that a set minimum wage would provide workers with fair compensation and give them greater economic stability. Ubereats, GrubHub, and Doordash disagree and have stated that the law would hurt delivery drivers instead of helping them, as well as negatively impact consumers by increasing delivery costs. GrubHub and Doordash have filed a lawsuit together against New York City, and Uber has filed its own lawsuit in opposition to the law.
