Chicago’s Fraternal Order of Police union is fighting for 12 weeks of paid parental leave
Chicago police officers want their employee benefits to include paid parental leave, and the police are planning on going to court with Chicago’s mayor regarding this issue. Chicago police officers are represented by the Fraternal Order of Police union, and the union demanded 12 weeks of paid parental leave. The union states that teachers and workers at Chicago Public Schools are provided with 12 weeks of paid parental leave and that CPS employees and police officers are not provided the same standard of benefits. The mayor has stated that the union's demands were rejected because Chicago police officers are provided with 365 days of paid time off every two years.
