Minneapolis City Council proposed minimum wage laws for rideshare drivers
Minneapolis city council members have proposed an ordinance that would establish a minimum wage for rideshare drivers. The ordinance would either pay Uber and Lyft drivers $1.40/mile, $0.51/minute, or $5/hour, and drivers will be paid the greatest option. City council members have also proposed a measure that would report the amount that drivers receive from the total amount paid. Rideshare drivers in Minneapolis have expressed their concerns about low wages, and have successfully organized, and the Minnesota Uber/Lyft Drivers Association was established. Other cities such as New York City, Washington, and Seattle have passed similar laws to fairly compensate drivers.
