Columbus area libraries have begun to unionize, Pickerington Public Library seeks union recognition
Staff at Pickerington Public Library in Columbus, Ohio are seeking to unionize and they have filed for union recognition with the State Employee Relations Board. Workers state that forming a union will ensure a strong and supportive work environment, and provide staff with greater wages and increased healthcare benefits. Two other Columbus area libraries have unionized in the past few years, and workers are represented by the Ohio Federation of Teachers. The Ohio Federation of Teachers represents library employees, social workers, public and charter school teachers, and higher education professors. Various Columbus area schools and academies have also joined the unionization movement, and the Menlo Park Academy, Summit Academy, KIPP, and School of Bright Promise have successfully organized.
