Workers at a major Australian natural gas company plan to strike over wage and working condition disputes
Woodside Energy employees are planning to strike in early September if contract negotiations with company management do not progress. The Australian energy company is a large global exporter of natural gas, and the strike will impact international markets. Woodside Energy staff is represented by the Australian Workers’ Union and the Maritime Union of Australia, and the unions are demanding measures to increase pay and improve working conditions in the new contract. Workers are hoping that Woodside Energy and Chevron will set an industry standard wage, and establish an industry standard of working conditions. The unions stated that Woodside Energy and Chevron have avoided bargaining with workers, resulting in workers pursuing potential strike action.
