California lawmakers introduce bill that provides unemployment benefits to striking workers
Lawmakers in California have proposed a bill that would provide unemployment wages to striking workers. If the bill passes, workers who have been on strike for over two weeks would be eligible to collect unemployment benefits. Striking workers currently have to rely on personal savings funds or side jobs to pay bills, and lawmakers want to reduce financial stress and hardship for these workers. California has witnessed employees in multiple industries strike this summer to demand greater wages, increased benefits, and better working conditions. In the past months, actors, writers, hospitality workers, public city employees, and nurses have gone on strike in the Southern California area.
