School districts around the United States began instruction this past week, and many districts faced transportation issues that affected hundreds of students. Many school districts are suffering from bus driver shortages, causing transportation delays or the cancellation of school bus routes altogether. The limited number of bus drivers has led to certain school districts to issue fare cards for students to use public transportation instead, and other school districts are considering Uber and Lyft options. Some school districts have been forced to cancel a week of school to figure out how to transport students and are considering various options to fix the issue. Certain districts are increasing driver pay to attract new hires, while others are reducing the number of students who are eligible for bus transportation, causing parents and families to bear the reasonability of student transportation.
