Two major unions are competing to represent Los Angeles City Council staffers
The city of Los Angeles has witnessed a rapid increase in labor activity throughout the past months, with workers across various industries taking strike action. Hospitality workers, entertainment actors, screenwriters, and set designers, have all gone on strike to demand greater worker pay and increased employee benefits. Los Angeles City Council staff workers are joining the trend and are increasing union organization efforts, and two major unions are hoping to represent LA City Council staffers. The Engineer and Architect Association and the Service Employees International Union are the two unions competing, and both unions represent thousands of city workers in various departments around the country. The Engineer and Architect Association tends to represent city employees who work in city planning and accounting, while the Service Employees International Union usually represents janitors, sanitation workers, mechanics, and gardeners who work for a city. The two unions will continue to meet with city council staffers and collect worker signatures, in an effort to be the union that workers chose to represent them.
