Kaiser Permanente workers in Washington D.C. along with other unionized employees around the country have authorized strike action
Unionized workers at Kaiser Permanente Hospitals in the Washington D.C. area have voted in favor of strike authorization, joining other Kaiser Permanente employees around the country. Thousands of Kaiser Permanente employees in the states of Oregon, California, Washington, and Colorado also approved of potential strike action. Kaiser Permanente workers in the Washington D.C. area are represented by the Office and Professional Employees International Union, while Kaiser Permanente employees on the West Coast are represented by the Service Employees International Union. All of the unions that represent Kaiser workers around the country are united by the Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions. The coalition states that unions that authorized strike action will go on strike if a new contract is not reached before September 30. If strike action does occur, it will be the biggest healthcare worker strike in the nation’s history, and both parties are hoping to reach an agreement to avoid strike action.
