UAW President Shawn Fain began his career at an automotive plant, and now he's leading nationwide strikes against the Big 3 Automakers
United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain, who is leading automotive workers around the country to strike at Big 3 Automakers, got his start working for Stellanis over a decade ago. Steallanis was experiencing decreased profits and a high risk of bankruptcy, and they called for concessions from UAW to reduce the company’s costs. The concessions that Steallanis asked for were reduced starting pay and tiered wages. Shawn Fain was a member of UAW and led the local chapter to vote against the measures, Fain’s action started his career at the UAW headquarters in Michigan, and he continued to move up the ranks, eventually to the UAW presidency position. Fain is known for his strong stance on not giving any concessions to automakers, and this stance is the main driver of the current strikes at General Motors, Ford, and Stellanis.
