Union organization vote passed at domestic violence resource center in Maine
Through These Doors, a nonprofit domestic violence resource center in Maine, has successfully unionized and will begin negotiations with management soon. The resource center will be represented by the Maine Service Employees Organization, which represents state and city employees, and other nonprofit workers in Maine. Over three-quarters of workers voted in favor of unionizing, and many employees stated that they wanted to unionize to have more equality in power and greater autonomy. Workers also stated that unionizing will allow them to better serve the individuals who come to the resource center. Management of Through These Doors was initially opposed to union activity, but after the union organization vote passed, the nonprofit management released a statement announcing their intention to respect employees and work with them to reach a contract agreement.
