The UAW expands strike action to include a Stellantis factory producing Ram 1500 trucks
The United Auto Workers union has continued to expand strike action against the Big 3 Automakers. UAW has chosen to target factories that produce the most profitable and well-known vehicles for the automakers, and the most recent target was a factory that produces Ram 1500 trucks. The Ram 1500 is a major vehicle for Stellantis, and Stellantis was the focus of the most recent strike action expansion due to negotiation disagreements between the two parties. UAW president, Shawn Fain, stated that Stellantis is trying to undercut workers, and the company’s proposed contract is much lower than the proposals from the other automakers. Fain also claims that Stellantis is attempting to cut medical coverage and employee benefits, and wants the union to make additional concessions. The strike at the Ram 1500 truck factory added 6,800 workers to the UAW’s strike action, raising the number of workers on strike to 40,000.
