Studios in Hollywood and SAG-AFTRA reach a tentative contract, after months of strike action
The Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, which represents thousands of actors in the film, television, and entertainment industries, has reached a tentative agreement with production studios in Hollywood. The tentative agreement includes significant wage increases, greater consent and compensation protections with the increasing use of AI, and a new system of payments for views on streaming platforms. The tentative agreement will be sent out to union members in the following days, and if members approve the contract, the months-long actors' strike will end. Actors have been on strike for almost four months, and the strike action has resulted in the stoppage of a majority of projects in Hollywood. Strike action began in July, and actors joined Hollywood writers on the picket lines. Writers represented by the Writers Guild of America went on strike starting in May and finalized a contract with studios in late September.
