Vice Media recently announced that the company will terminate various Vice shows and consolidate the numerous news divisions into two main divisions. News, publishing, and creative services will be in one group, and TV and distribution in the other division. Earlier this year, Vice Media shut down Vice News Tonight, the company’s flagship news program. Vice Media did not specify what other shows will also be canceled, but the various cancellations will be accompanied by layoffs. It is predicted that less than one hundred workers at Vice will be affected by the job cuts, and workers were recently notified by an internal company memo. The Vice union has expressed disappointment with how Vice announced layoffs, as Vice used an all company livestream to break the news to employees. The union stated that it was frustrated that the company decided that the best course of action was to lay off employees instead of making cuts elsewhere.
