Amazon announces gaming division layoffs
Amazon is making several changes to Amazon games as it works to restructure the gaming division to focus more on Amazon’s original games. The company will cut the Game Growth and Crown Channel initiatives, and reduce focus on third-party games and streaming. Amazon will redirect resources toward the upcoming launches of new Amazon games, including “Throne and Liberty”, “Blue Protocol”, “Tomb Raider”, and “The Lord of the Rings”. Amazon will also cut 180 gaming division positions, and the layoffs come as Amazon has cut thousands of jobs this past year due to difficult economic conditions. High inflation and increasing interest rates have led Amazon to freeze hiring initiatives, and the Amazon workforce has shrunk since last year to reduce costs. Amazon has cut over 27,000 positions since last fall, and this has led to a significant increase in company revenue.
