1,324 workers in Southwestern Ohio have been affected by layoffs this year
Over the past year, various companies in the Southwestern Ohio region have made layoffs, and over one thousand employees have been affected. The official number reported by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services is 1,324, but the actual number of layoffs in the area is higher. This official number is based on WARN notices, notices that are required by the Workers Adjustment Retraining Notification Act, but not all layoffs warrant required WARN notices. Companies that temporarily laid off employees, such as Ford, that laid workers due to the UAW strike, did not have to file a WARN notice. The company responsible for the greatest number of layoffs is Procter & Gamble, and other companies that laid off over one hundred employees include Honeywell Intelligrated, Webhelp Americas, York Street Fresh Foods, Yellow Corporation, and Multi-Color Corporation. Despite these layoffs around the region, unemployment rates are near record lows in the Southwestern Ohio area and the state as a whole.
