Fairfax Connector bus services canceled due to driver strike
Fairfax Connector bus drivers have been on strike for the past two weeks, and bus services in the Northern Virginia area have been halted. Workers are demanding wage increases and greater employee benefits, and the contract between unionized drivers and Transdev, the company that operates the Fairfax Connector buses, expired in December. Drivers are represented by the Amalgamated Transit Union, and the union held a strike authorization vote in late December after various rounds of negotiations with Transdev were not successful. Workers voted in favor of strike authorization and stated that going on strike was the last resort option. The shutdown of the Fairfax Connector bus has temporarily closed 93 bus lines that serve thousands of commuters every day. In response to the strike action, Transdev has canceled healthcare benefits for striking workers.
