Alabama workers at a Mercedes plant intend to file a petition for a unionization vote in the next week. Employees are expected to force a vote to join the United Auto Workers after a large majority signed union cards in February. The vote would be seem as part of a continued effort over the last decade by the UAW to organize unions outside of Detroit. Union membership has declined precipitously over the last 50 years.
