Samsung Union Steps Up Pressure Over Pay With Three-Day Strike
Samsung Electronics is facing its largest labor strike in its 55-year history, with the main union at the South Korean tech giant planning a three-day walkout to pressure the company for better pay and vacation terms. This action follows the collapse of wage and vacation negotiations last month, escalating from a previous one-day strike. The strike, involving potentially up to 5,000 workers, aims to disrupt operations at one of Samsung's key semiconductor plants in Hwaseong. This comes at a critical time for Samsung as it tries to secure a deal with Nvidia Corp and introduce new tech products internationally. The strike could significantly impact the global semiconductor market, where Samsung holds substantial market shares in DRAM and NAND flash memory. Union demands have expanded to include higher wages and additional paid leave for all 28,000-plus members amidst concerns over bonus calculations and profit sharing.
