GM lays off more than 1,000 salaried software and services employees
General Motors (GM) is laying off over 1,000 salaried employees globally in its software and services division as part of efforts to streamline operations. This includes around 600 job cuts at GM’s tech campus near Detroit. The layoffs come less than six months after leadership changes within the division, including the departure of former Apple executive Mike Abbott due to health reasons. GM is focusing on simplifying its operations to prioritize investments in areas with the greatest impact, especially as automakers seek to reduce costs amid concerns of an industry downturn and increased spending on electric and software-defined vehicles. The layoffs represent about 1.3% of GM's global salaried workforce.
