California College of Arts announces potential changes to fight financial challenges
The California College of Arts, a private arts college in the San Francisco area, is experiencing significant financial challenges due to declining enrollment over past years. Student enrollment has decreased by around one-third since 2019, and the college has proposed a plan to impose various changes in an attempt to reduce its $20 million deficit. The plan includes offering new courses in an attempt to attract more students, as well as potential layoffs. The college is also considering a merger with another college or university, as other colleges in California struggling financially merged with larger institutions in recent years. Mills College in the Oakland area joined Northeastern University, and the California Institute of the Arts in southern California merged with the Vermont College of Fine Arts.
