Cornell and UAW agree on tentative contract, workers to vote on contract in early September
Cornell University reached a tentative agreement with unionized workers after a twelve-hour bargaining session on Tuesday. Workers are represented by the United Auto Workers union and have been on strike since the start of the school year, demanding better pay and increased employee benefits. Over 1,200 workers participated in strike action, which disrupted various services on Cornell’s campus, including maintenance and custodial services as well as dining services. Unionized workers will vote on the tentative agreement at the beginning of September, and if the contract is ratified employees will return to work. The tentative agreement increases wages by over twenty percent and will discontinue the tiered wage system. The university will also provide employees with lump sum payments and other types of compensation/bonuses.
