International Longshoremen’s Association, United States Maritime Alliance reach agreement to temporarily pause strike action
Dock workers on the East Coast and the Gulf Coast will return to work after striking for three days. Dock workers are represented by the International Longshoremen’s Association, and the union has reached an agreement with the United States Maritime Alliance to pause strike action until January 2025, giving the two parties more time to negotiate a new collective bargaining agreement. The International Longshoremen’s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance have made more progress on contract negotiations as they have reached an agreement on the size of wage increases. The two parties still need to reach an agreement on the use of automation and other factors before they agree on a tentative contract. The strike action was short enough that consumers will not experience huge disruptions in the coming days, and many retailers and stores stocked up in preparation before the strike began.
