Unionized workers at the New Yorker voted to authorize strike action
Unionized New Yorker employees voted unanimously in favor of strike authorization. Workers are represented by the New Yorker Union-NewsGuild of New York, and the union and Conde Nast are currently negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement. The union represented a hundred workers at the New Yorker but did not include staff writers. The union’s previous contract agreement expired in mid-July, and employees have been working without a contract for over six months. Workers are seeking higher wages, greater job security measures, and increased flexibility with outside work projects. The New Yorker festival, a three-day long event, is set to take place in three weeks, and Conde Nast stated that voting to authorize strike action right before the festival was disappointing.
