Employees at Anchorage Daily News vote on union representation
Anchorage Daily News workers voted earlier last week on union representation. Unionization efforts began in September, and eighty percent of employees signed union representation cards. The newspaper management did not choose to voluntarily recognize the union, so a union vote was held. The votes will be counted on November 5th because of remote workers who mailed in their votes. If the vote is successful, Anchorage Daily News will be the first newsroom in Alaska to be represented by a union. Workers are seeking union representation from the NewsGuild-Communications Workers of America Union. Workers want better financial transparency, a more sustainable workplace, and to receive more equitable wages.
