Boston University and graduate union reach agreement, ends seven-month strike
Graduate students at Boston University finally ended strike action after the Boston University Graduate Workers Union and university administration reached a contract agreement this week. Graduate workers have been on strike for the past seven months, demanding increased wages and improved employee benefits. The contract is the first collective bargaining agreement reached between the union and Boston University and will last three years. An earlier proposed contract was for five years, but a shorter contract will allow the union to go back to the bargaining table sooner. The tentative agreement establishes a minimum salary for PhD students of 45,000 dollars and will increase wages by three percent each year. The university will also increases childcare subsidies and paid childcare leave. Workers will also get half off Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority bus passes.
