Working remotely reduces carbon emissions, according to recent study conducted in Canada
A new study conducted in Canada found that remote work is better for the environment and reduces emissions. Remote workers reduce overall emissions by twenty-five percent in Ottawa, and employees who work from home lower overall emissions by up to sixty-four percent in Quebec. The research showed that workers who live in more energy-efficient houses greatly reduce emissions. Working remotely from home significantly reduces transportation emissions, and can result in a sixty percent reduction in pollution. The decrease in transportation emissions significantly outweighs the increase in household emissions, which was estimated to be around a ten percent increase. Federal employees in Canada have expressed opposition to the recent return to office mandate set by the Canadian government, which requires workers to work in office three days a week. Previously the government required workers to work in person two out of five days.
