New York Times’ tech division workers take strike action during election week
Staffers in the technology division at the New York Times went on strike on Monday, after the newspaper and the union representing tech workers failed to reach a tentative contract agreement. The New York Times Tech Guild represented six hundred New York Times’ tech workers, and unionized employees voted in favor of strike authorization in September. The workers voted to strike during the US election week if the two parties did not agree on a new collective bargaining agreement, as there is significant coverage of the US election. The New York Times is the US newspaper with the most number of subscribers, and millions of Americans rely on the New York Times for information about current events. The technology division is responsible for the newspaper's back-end digital operations, live blogs, mobile push alerts, games, graphics, and other features. The Guild is calling for readers to boycott the New York Times’ games and other digital services/features to support the striking workers.
