Federal judge determines that Amazon illegally influenced previous union vote at Alabama warehouse, orders new union election
Employees at an Amazon warehouse facility in Alabama will participate in a vote regarding union representation for the third time in the past three years. A federal judge recently ruled that Amazon had illegally tried to influence workers’ votes in the previous vote. The last vote occurred in 2022, and workers voted to reject union representation from the Retail, Wholesale, and Department Store Union. The judge found that Amazon surveilled the union activity of workers, and told workers that if they voted in favor of union representation Amazon would shut down the facility. The ruling also determined that Amazon had removed pro-union materials and supplied anti-union materials instead. The National Labor Relations Board found that managers and consultants tried to influence employees before the first union election, which led to the redo in 2022.
