DNC abruptly lays off permanent employees, no severance pay provided
The Democratic National Committee conducted layoffs that affected several permanent staff members. Many positions at campaign offices end after election season finishes, but the workers affected by the layoffs were previously told that they would continue their positions post-election. DNC employees are represented by the Service Employees International Union, and the union stated that employees were only given a one-day notice of layoffs, and were not provided any severance pay. DNC leadership did not provide details about how it determined who to cut, and if there will be additional layoffs. The DNC released a statement saying that while the layoffs are frustrating for workers, it did not violate the collective bargaining agreement between the union and the organization. The union noted that staffers working for the Harris campaign received three weeks of severance pay following the election, and is hoping the DNC will choose to take the same course of action.
