US judge blocks Musk's DOGE team from accessing Education Department, OPM data
A federal judge temporarily blocked Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing sensitive data from the U.S. Education Department and the Office of Personnel Management. The ruling, issued by Judge Deborah Boardman, came in response to labor unions arguing that the agencies had improperly granted DOGE access to personal information in violation of the Privacy Act of 1974. The Trump administration defended the access as necessary for governance, but the judge ruled that DOGE affiliates lacked a legitimate need for the data. This decision follows multiple lawsuits from Democratic states and legal groups challenging DOGE’s role in government oversight.
