Two unions at UCSD set to strike Wednesday
Thousands of UC San Diego workers plan to strike on Wednesday over wages and benefits, with pickets occurring statewide at University of California campuses. The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 3299, representing around 33,000 workers, is leading the strike alongside the University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE) Local 9119. The unions accuse the university of failing to address staffing shortages and imposing higher healthcare costs. The University of California contends that it has offered wage and benefit increases but has received little response. It remains unclear how the strike will impact students and patient care.
