Amazon Worker Screenings Wage Question Sent to Connecticut Court
The Second Circuit Court of Appeals has asked the Connecticut Supreme Court to determine whether Amazon must pay warehouse workers for time spent in mandatory security screenings. The workers claim the screenings, which take 10 to 20 minutes before meal breaks and after shifts, should be compensated under Connecticut wage laws. A lower court ruled in Amazon’s favor in 2023, but the appeals court found that state law on this issue is unresolved and should be clarified by Connecticut’s highest court. The ruling could impact workers across the state, as some states require payment for security screenings even when federal law does not.
