Okonite workers ratify new contract, ending weeks-long strike in Santa Maria
A weeks-long strike at a Santa Maria manufacturing plant has ended after union workers ratified a new contract that includes wage increases, improved benefits, more paid leave, and a $2,000 bonus. The deal came after the company reopened negotiations in early June, following backlash over terminated health insurance and unmet demands in an earlier proposal. Over 160 union members had been on strike since May, and the new agreement ensures full reinstatement. The union calls the package the strongest ever secured for the facility’s workforce.
