US senators demand Wells Fargo welcome employee unions
Fifteen Democratic senators are pressing Wells Fargo to halt what they describe as an aggressive anti-union campaign targeting employees in multiple states. Their letter to CEO Charlie Scharf argues that the bank’s history of toxic workplace practices and recent retaliation against organizing workers underscores the need for collective bargaining, noting that six unfair labor practice charges have already been filed this year. Wells Fargo, which saw its first branch unionize in 2023 and now has more than two dozen organized locations, insists it respects workers’ right to choose and offers competitive pay and benefits. Contract negotiations at about 20 branches are expected by November, even as lawmakers push the bank to abandon what they call union busting.
