SK Hynix's Korean workers launch unified union amid stalled wage talks
Employees at South Korean semiconductor manufacturer SK Hynix have formed a new unified labor union to strengthen their bargaining power during stalled wage negotiations. About 2,500 workers have already joined the new organization, which seeks to unite employees across different job categories and locations. The organizing effort comes as SK Hynix reports record profits from strong demand for AI chips while proposing to shift some employee bonuses from cash to stock-based compensation. If the new union becomes the company's majority union, it could play a central role in negotiations over wages, bonuses, and other workplace benefits.
